Where was Love?

The title of the article captured me: The Opposite of Addiction is Connection…

What an interesting thought. I haven’t had time to read the article, but I intend to. Especially now, following the events of Sunday night.

Just as hate cannot coexist with love. And after an event like this, we can’t help but wonder, where was love? In this moment?

Love is seen after. In the outpouring of support and prayer.

I would argue, though, that God’s intention is for love to be shown before – before a person gets to this point; before an event is so destructive.

We were created for communion. For companionship.

When there is an absence of these – an absence of love – hate grows.

In the garden, we had perfect communion: with one another, with God. Then, a choice was made; our God-given free will & our temptation to be god-like in our own right, introduced the awareness of evil & destroyed perfect communion. (Genesis 1-3)

So, when we are stripped of communion, we lack part of our humanity. And evil ensues through hatred.

Events like those of this week rest so starkly in contrast to love, void of humanity – and are so greatly contrasted with the love that inevitably follows.

Tonight, I am broken hearted by what had happened in Vegas. But, I am also proud to see my timeline of usually divided posts light up in support (even if for a moment before more division occurs). And, I am thankful for my loved ones, for whatever time I have them in my life to love and be loved.

Relationship can mend & love covers many things (1 Peter 4:8).

If you are with me in this Write 31 Days journey, do me a favor and read the first few chapters of Genesis. I’ll be there a lot this month.

As for tonight: pray. Pray for those affected by Las Vegas, including the family of the man who committed such an evil act. Pray for your loved ones. Pray for healing of hundreds. Give thanks for those who are with you.

God is not surprised; His love is still real. His people are still moved to compassion, if only their heart would be open.

“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.” – 2 Cronicles 7:14
