Two years ago (at age 23), I made a New Year’s Resolution to go on my first date…EVER.
It didn’t happen.
Last year, I made the same resolution. It still didn’t happen.
I’m 25 years old and I’ve never been on a date – EVER.
Perhaps this is a factor in why my favorite Rom-Com is Never Been Kissed.
I mean, there are several reasons for this:
- Drew Barrymore is the lead – and she’s great!
- Michael Vartan doesn’t do so bad himself (and, yes, nice to look at 😉
- I love any story that even slightly resembles a Cinderella-esque story where the female lead actually takes action to help herself
But, maybe the biggest reason I have watched this movie more times than I’d like to admit and why I know almost every line:
This is my story…
I have never been kissed… I’ve never even been on a date.
This year, at New Year’s I told my cousin I wanted to read the Bible through this year, the whole thing. And, while she thought that was great, she wanted to know about my resolution to go on a date.
Nope. Not this year. I gave up on that resolution.
So, she made the decision for me…for the 3rd year in a row, my New Year’s Resolution is to go on my first date.
Cousin & Cousin’s fiance’ have decided to be my dating gurus. They are going to be helping me on my journey to my first date…and from conversations tonight, I gather, dating in general.
And, in all honestly, I could use a little Rom-com, movie style makeover.
From learning more open body language to building confidence. From “Not dressing stupid” (Cousin’s words, that are now burned in my head every time I get dressed) to how to put together my best look, make-up and all.
Tonight, they even gave me an awkward “when to expect to have to kiss him” and a demonstration of what it should be like…(only slightly more awkward than it sounds…)
They have plans to set me up on “practice dates”, while I begin a journey in the world of online dating, where I have another friend who has helped me with the basics of a good online profile.
All of this in the hopes of getting my first date. My first kiss.
And, eventually, a relationship that will be lasting and built on a sound foundation.
Cousin also had the idea to blog about it…so, here we go. The plan is already in motion. Conversations have already been had, tips given, and hair color softened.
Hopefully, you enjoy the journey just as much as I do.
