Friday is finally here! And what a week it’s been!
Today is another 5 Minute Friday! Here on my blog, I write for 5 minutes straight about the topic found over at The Gypsy Mama‘s blog. 5 minutes, no over-thinking, no editing. Just writing for the love of it.
Today’s topic is EMPTY

“…I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret to being content in every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength” – Philippians 4:11-13
Many of us know the 13th verse of this chapter, but rarely do we talk about the preceding verses, especially 12.
But, in the past month I have been learning what Paul learned. How to be content with little, after being so accustomed to having much.
Being unemployed, I could barely pay my bills, much less buy food/gas. So, for two weeks now, 3 areas of my life have been very dry, very empty: my bank, my gas tank, and more than ever before, my stomach.
If my family knew exactly how little I have had in my cupboards (and subsequently been eating), they would be so upset that I didn’t ask for help. If they knew how far I had to stretch my money just to get where I needed to go, it would frustrate them.
I worried at times, had moments of panic when I wondered “can I really do this?”
The answer is, simply: NO, I can’t… But, HE can. Even in my worry, I knew He would care for me. My daily bread would be found and somehow He would see to it I could make it to His house of worship and get to my few jobs I did have.
And, today, I am full. I have been working a new, steadier job for a few weeks now, and just got paid. So, my bank account, my gas tank, and my tummy are full. For now. It’s still a paycheck to paycheck kind of life, but now I have a paycheck to sustain me. Because HE saw fit to bless me in such a way.
So, I am full of one other thing: THANKS.

There was a time when my roommate and I had no jobs. We sold our jewelry to pay for bus passes to get to job interviews and to get temporary work. We prayed for God's provision and He supplied ABUNDANTLY! We got groceries left on our doorstep, we found money under our feet in parking lots where stores were not open, we were invited for meals when we had nothing in our pantry. And when we had abundance from God, we shared it with others who had need. Living by faith can be quite exhilarating when you get to see God work and you walk in His joy!

He does provide, and manages to provide beyond expectation. I too enjoy sharing my abundance with others. Sharing life (and means) is how we further the Kingdom in love.Thank you for sharing your story with me.
