When we hold ourselves back because of what everyone else says
I’m going back to Substack. I’m not leaving this space, I just have a new direction. A new plan. I need a place where I can scream into the void more often, and that’s hard to do when everything shared/posted goes to an inbox. I consolidated back here to wordpress in the hopes that I could combine the two in one ecosystem. The ecosystem that I own.
Instead, I’m getting FOMO and missing the uniqueness of the ecosystem of Substack. I miss the growth there, and I miss the ways I was starting to connect.
So, I built a plan. As a business, I still believe I need a capsule blog. A set of posts that answers questions and lives on my website. So, I’m building that directly attached to my payhip.
This space will be more for the posts like this. More messy, more real life, raw behind the scenes. The bridge between business info and my real life. What I fell in love with writing on the web in the first place.
Substack will mirror my YouTube. Giving me more creative freedom in the longer form content to grow my audience and find my people. I can guide them to this blog if they want the rest. Over there, it will be what I want to for sure push to my reader’s inboxes. Some of that will still happen here, too, but mostly, this will be the space for true blog style and Substack will be the extra and the focused – articles like a magazine.
I needed to create a strategy that would work for me. I am TIRED. Tired of being addicted to social media. Tired of the hamster wheel strategy. Tired of not leaning into writing, which I love so much.
I want to create more bursts of audio content, too, so I’m playing with a podcast strategy. I have leaned into YouTube, and want to keep that going, but I have one-off bursts of audio that I want to use without having to re-record with a facecam. I don’t want to lose the authenticity.
So, I’m taking those thoughts, creating extra podcast episodes that won’t be on YouTube (at first) and then blogging them here for extra SEO.
As we close out 2026, I am positive about the direction I’m headed.
I got clarity on a call with my friend & coach Kamina about my title, what I’m ACTUALLY coaching on, and it’s like the floodgates have opened.
**Side note and Full disclosure, I am enrolled in Kamina’s program Create & Get Paid, but the 1-1 work and our conversations as friends have been the most impactful. If you’re a creative looking for a way to monetize your creative work and grow that monetization, you need to be in Kamina’s Create & Get Paid program (I’m not a sponsor, I just really believe in the work she is doing, and I LOVE the program.)**
With this shift in clarity, I know better WHO I’m talking to and what to talk to them about. We settled on me calling myself a Creative Career Transition Coach. As a Creative Career Transition Coach, I’m focusing on being that career coach for burned out neurodivergent women/moms ready to find their next step. Because when I want to help these women recover from burnout, find their balance, and live fulfilled lives, these creative career moves are the key.
With this clarity has also come a deepening of the dissatisfaction I feel at being so consumed by social media and all the voices saying “do it this way,” “believe this way,” and “the world is burning and nothing will ever be good again.” I’m tired of letting the information overload and decision fatigue keep me from what I want going forward.
You don’t need to let the noise hold you back, either.
Instead, with intention and a lot of repeated practice, we can curate the voices that make their way in and we can reduce our exposure to the constant cycle of short form ideas/information. This is not to keep us in an echochamber or never engage on social media. Instead, it’s to make social media more SOCIAL again and to really pay attention to what information we let through.
Take the next step. Make the change. Do the thing. And see what beauty and brilliance comes from it.
Until Next Time, go take action,
Candice
